The Doomed Process
Attempting to Use All in One Migration plugin
I installed the All in One Migration plugin on the original site and the fresh WP installation I was planning on migrating it to. I exported the original site and attempted to import it to the new site, but it exceeded the maximum upload size of 32MB (which is a ridiculously small size). From there, I clicked the attached link to increase the maximum upload size. It told me to modify the .htaccess file, which I did, but it didn’t resolve the issue.
Attempting manual migration
After failing to use the plugin, I decided to give manual migration a go. I followed the last tutorial linked on the assignment page (this video). Unfortunately, I faced several issues here as well. When trying to download the original site’s “wp-content” folder, I received errors that I couldn’t download some files to do with Jetpack and several other resources that were managed by WordPress.com. Additionally, after I uploaded the sql file to phpMyAdmin, I realized the database didn’t have some of the items the tutorial maker said to edit, so I tried to create them, but I got the error shown in the slider indicating duplicate entries.
I believe websites created on WordPress.com may be structured differently than the sites we’ve been making. When I compared the databases between the site created on WordPress.com and the new installation, there was a big disparity in the number of tables between the two (the installation had way more), and the way the directories were set up on WinSCP appeared to be very different as well. This may be the root of my issues.
Unfortunately, I had to throw in the towel after committing 5 hours to a failed endeavor.
